Eunita Winkey created the Medical
Record Awareness (MRA) movement. She beleives that folks should be just as concern about their medical records as they do
their credit records. She is also a public school teacher and the Founder/CEO of ATWINDS Foundation, Inc., and motto
is “A Teacher’s Work Is Never Done Services.” She started her MRA movement by participating as a panelist
for the Hysterectomy Education Resource Service Conference. In addition, she has participated in a number of health care forums
and conferences. She has shared her unnecessary hysterectomy medical error story in many venues such as Radio One, Michael
Baisden, 50+ Magazine, public schools, colleges, Health and Human Services Faith Expo, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation,
churches, community events, government events, AARP and National Council of Negro Women Planning for Long-Term Care Campaign,
and the Point TV show on DC cable as co-producer of the health care show. Her movement has been introduced to celebrities
such as as Xernona Clayton (Trumpet Awards), Judge Hatchett (Parent Power Now), Ambassador Andrew Young
and wife Carolyn Young, Dr. Bobby Jones, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Dr. E. Faye Williams, Cathy Hughes, Sybil
Wilkes, Dorothy Leavell, Sherri Sherrod, Bernice King, Christine Johnson (Magic Johnson's mother), Dr. Joseph Ripley, Sr.,
Tammy Trent, Dr. Gerald Durley, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Chris Tucker, Jonathan Slocumb, Dana Kristina-Joi Morgan, and many others.
She served as teacher panelist for Council Mel Franklin of Prince George County discussing the Education Reform. Eunita received a response letter from President Obama on medical record
issues within his first 100 days in office. She was honored as a community leader and published in the first
Who’s Who Black in Washington, DC, Inaugural Edition with President Obama and first lady Michelle on the cover along with foreword by Dr. Dorothy
Height. She was honored as “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”
in 2005-2006, received the “Foundation for Home and Community Children Advocacy Award” and “Foundation for
Home and Community Paperwork Award” in 2005. She received the 2009 Pinsol nominee award for Women Making a Powerful
Difference in the community. In addition, she was instrumental in ATWINDS nomination by the Maryland Chamber
of Commerce and Baltimore Business Journal 2007 Business Philanthropy Award. She is a member of National Education Association,
Harriet's Ant-Drug, and former member of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. She also Eunita was inspired to establish ATWINDS by former student Lanika
Singleton, who she raised as her daughter.
Lanika is the first in her family to attend college. Shane McCarty is a senior in college and states that Eunita inspired
him to co-found two organizations. Shane’s Actively Caring for People organization is used in public schools as a bullying
intervention program. Eunita has also taught in several at-risk schools, served as an adjunct instructor at the College of
Southern Maryland, and children church. Eunita is pursuing a Doctorate in Education Leadership at the University of Phoenix,
received a Master’s of Education Leadership from George Mason University, and has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Saint Augustine’s
College. She is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and resides in Pomfret, Maryland with Marvin (husband), Nicholas (son), and Ashley, (daughter), and is an active member of Victory Chapel in
Accokeek, Maryland.
